As an important component of Fudan University’s campus informatization construction, the Campus Card system serves as a foundational project for collecting information data across campus. It is closely related to the daily work, study, and life of faculty and students.

The system is software-architecture-based, with the campus card and mobile devices serving as media. It provides a comprehensive information service platform for all members of the university community. The system was officially launched in April 2005 and has undergone continuous feature upgrades and application expansions since then. In 2011, a major upgrade was implemented, improving aspects such as the database, server architecture, security protocols, new business processing models, and support for multiple card types. In 2015, the CPU chip card was upgraded, with continuous introduction of new functions. In 2017, the Smart Dining System was launched, enabling refined management of campus catering services, collecting dining data, and providing evaluation and feedback mechanisms — marking the entry point forLogistics Informatization Construction (logistics informatization construction).

In 2020, the system underwent a full-scale upgrade. The updated system revolutionized traditional campus consumption models by adopting an online transaction model. In addition to physical campus cards, virtual campus cards were introduced. The virtual campus card now supports functionalities including consumption, recharge, identity authentication, online ordering, account inquiry, transaction history review, spending limit modification, and password changes. The virtual campus card officially entered trial operation on December 31, 2020 . In 2021, it was widely used in scenarios such as the Weekend Advanced Learning Program, freshman orientation, and large-scale competitions. On April 22, 2021 , a new function — the Fudan University Shanghai Public Transportation Co-branded Card— was launched.

To promote frugality and raise awareness of saving resources, while actively encouraging the “Clean Plate Campaign,” Fudan University launched a smart weighing self-service dining system at Xiyuan Canteen in Building No. 2 of Fenglin Campus on September 28, 2021 .

In September 2022 , the access control systems in student dormitories across the four campuses were fully upgraded to support the use of virtual campus cards.

In August 2023, the smart weighing self-service dining system was launched at the third floor of Danyuan Canteen in Handan Campus.

In January 2024, the second canteen at Jiangwan Campus launched third-generation smart POS terminals for meal ordering.

In March 2024, the university opened its doors to the public without prior appointment, allowing off-campus visitors to enter directly using their ID card or Suishen Code. Additionally, some canteen windows accepted WeChat Pay or Alipay for meal payments.

On May 27, 2024, the Fudan Alumni Card entered public beta testing.
